Its been a long time since I had opportunity to update this blog, but quite a bit has changed in our lives and even more has changed in the food world. So, I thought I'd take this time while our T-Day Dinner is cooking away to make some quick updates.
Dairy Queen - No More
Sorry folks, scratch this one from your list of safe places to eat. They changed their recipes and now their out :(
Jason's Deli - New Addition
Can you say Spaghetti and Meatballs, Salad Bar, and a WHOLE LOT MORE. In fact if you have one of these near you, you will find yourselves eating there quite a bit if your anything like us. After all, how many places can you feed a family of 5 with food allergies for under $30 (yep, you read that right) this day and age.
Wendys - New Addition
Fries and Burger are safe, in fact, even their bread is safe :)
Sonic - New Addition
Sonic has done a complete 360 in the past 6 months. You still have to be careful, but they have options and are almost everywhere. The Hot Dogs (no bun, but), Tortilla's and Fries all seem to be safe. In fact, Chance hasn't had a single issue with them.
Papa Johns Pizza - New Addition
Yep, you read that right. Papa Johns is SAFE! The dough (normal, not the Thin Crust) is completely safe, so are most of the toppings (exception is the cheese and the chicken). Their Pizza Sauce is also safe. Just validate that they don't go throwing accidental cheese on and your good to go.
Hopefully the above gives you some more ideas on nation wide chains where you can do some eating out. Hope you and yours have a great Holiday Season, and Thanksgiving to all!

(And the recipe for this post is focused on Thanks Giving)
Green Bean Casserole
0.25lb Bacon (we use HyVee brand, but your favorite safe brand is fine)
1Tbs (tablespoon) Olive Oil (Virgin, extra Virgin, whatever)
1.2 medium onion diced (adjust to your tastes)
1/4 cup flour
1/2 32oz container of Trader Joes (brand matters) "Creamy Corn & Roasted Pepper Soup"
24oz (2 packages) Uncut Green Beans (FROZEN)
French's French Fried Onions (optional)
Preheat oven to 350f
Cut bacon into small pieces (about 1/4inch strips works well) and place over medium-low heat (you want to fat and a little crisp). Once bacon has crisped a bit and given up its wonderful fat add the Tablespoon of Olive Oil to the pan. Add the Onion cover and turn heat down to low. Let simmer for 5-10 minutes until Onion is translucent.
Add the Flour (slowly) to the pan and whisk to coat the bacon and the Onion. Raise the heat back up to medium and continue to stir till flour becomes golden in color. You may need to adjust the Flour amount as the liquid, fat, and oil all have bearing on how much you will need.
Once your flour is golden brown (or just shy of golden brown) pour in 1/2 of the container of "Creamy Corn & Roasted Pepper Soup". Whisk to bring mixture together and then slowly stir till comes back to a simmer (note: it will thicken quite a bit, you want that).
Place Green Beans (DO NOT THAW) into a 9x13 glass (metal may work too) pan and pour soup (gravy) mixture over the top. Turn green beans into mixture until they just start to soften.
Place into oven for 30 minutes, remove, top with French Fried Onions and put back into oven for an additional 5 minutes to finish.
Great addition to your Thanksgiving feast even if your not MSPI :)
